#035 – Changing Strategy

I’ve been trying to do too many things at once.

Or at least start too many things at once.

And while I love the challenge of it, I am just 1 guy.

And mentally and physically to get them all started at the same time is insanely overwhelming.

Plus I’ve kind of figured out what I want this site to be a bit better too.

So what’s changing?

Well baed on my Google Analytics stats I currently have zero readers at the time of writing this (25 October 2020) so for any of you reading this at some point in future, I guess nothing is really changing because you’re just going through old archives if you’re reading this.

But for me in terms of what I want this site to be, I had originally set out with turning it into a general sort of marketing and social media swipe file for any kind of business that might find it useful.

But my own experience is not that of ‘any kind’ of business.

And I’m not just trying to build ‘any kind’ of business.

Or ‘any kind’ of website.

I want to do things well, I want my business to go far, I want this website to go far – but I don’t have a big budget.

(Incidentally if I do get to the point of having what I would call a ‘big’ budget, that means you’re going to have an epic step by step case study to read through on here.)

So this website I guess if for business owners and entrepreneurs with big dreams and small resources – whether that be time, money, manpower or experience.

Because that is exactly where I’m at.

That is where I’m starting from and that is what I can talk best about.

So here’s what I’m aiming to do:

  • Post daily – at least once a day instead of twice. Twice is a bit too gung-ho to do consistently.
  • What I’m doing, what I’m testing and what I’m learning.
  • If I come across something helpful, I’ll do that as a sort of bonus post.
  • I have done no posts on social media so far so my aim is:
    • Podcast daily if I can get a workflow for recording, uploading and editing
    • Instagram 3-4x/week in the feed – the algorithm and the platform itself p!ss me off too much to hit daily
    • Youtube – once a week or twice a week if I can get a workflow going
    • Email – 3-5x/week when I have a lead magnet in place

The focus will be on documentation of the journey with insights, instead of just blabbing on about what I claim to know.

And my business itself?

So here’s where things are messy. In my various layers of things I have got:

  • Brands 1 & 2 – both fitness coaching in different niches
  • Brand 3 – wellness-focused blog
  • Brand 4 – you’re reading it now
  • Brand 5 – my main email and funnel marketing business
  • Brand 6 – my own personal blog on business and entrepreneurship. If you imagine brand 4 (where you are now) to be more on the tactics, brand 6 is more on strategy and mindset and my thought processes in more detail (the why, instead of the how)

And what does my workload look like?

I haven’t mapped it out in terms of how I’m getting to there with the day to day running of things but this is how I want to end up:

Brand 1

  • 3-4x Instagram feed posts per week
  • 1x podcast episode per week
  • 5x emails per week
  • Facebook and Instagram ads to lead into mailing list optin
  • Free lead magnet and low cost ‘tripwire offer’ to cover marketing spend
  • Monetisation via online coaching

Brand 2

  • Same as brand 1, but I’m executing on brand 2 first because I feel like I know the niche better
  • 3-4x Instagram feed posts per week
  • 1x podcast episode per week
  • 10x Pinterest posts per day (scheduled using Tailwind)
  • 5x emails per week
  • Facebook and Instagram ads to lead into mailing list optin
  • Free lead magnet and low cost ‘tripwire offer’ to cover marketing spend
  • Monetisation via online coaching

Brand 3

  • 3x blog posts per week
  • 7x Instagram posts per week – between quality content related to blog and own personal journey
  • 3-5x emails per week
  • 3x podcast episodes per week
  • 3-5x Tiktok videos per week
  • 10x Pinterest posts per day
  • I’d really really like to hit Youtube for this topic too but I don’t know about my own capacity or when I can make it happen
  • Free lead magnet and low cost tripwire offer
  • Monetisation via e-commerce and print on demand merchandise and maybe some ads

Brand 4

  • Daily blog post
  • Daily podcast
  • 1-2x Youtube videos per week
  • Free lead magnet and low cost tripwire offer
  • Rest of social media is TBC
  • Monetisation – absolutely NO idea yet

Brand 5

  • Daily posts on my LinkedIn personal profile
  • Facebook and Instagram ads to grow mailing list
  • 3-5x emails per week
  • Free lead magnet and low cost tripwire offer
  • Monetisation – 1 to 1 coaching on marketing and writing emails that sell

Brand 6

  • Daily posts on my LinkedIn profile
  • Probably some stuff on Twitter
  • Some stuff on my personal Instagram
  • Blog posts whenever
  • No interest in monetisation really – just somewhere to gather my thoughts

What Next?

One of my next posts on here will be my road map and timeline and when I see myself being able to bring extra support in but I’ll keep you all posted on my income and expenditure up to a certain point too.
